A fine line tattoo is drawn with thin, light lines instead of bold outlines. That is what makes it delicate, and it is also what you should think about before you pick the size. A thin line has less room to spread than a thick one.
Size is the thing to get right
A small tattoo packed with detail blurs as it ages. That is the main rule behind how we work, so we start from the smallest size your design can carry and tell you that size when we quote. If a design is too small for its detail, the lines will run together over the years.
Walk-in fine line goes up to 5 × 5 cm. Anything bigger or more detailed is planned and quoted individually. You can send a photo, a sketch or the number of a frame from our work.
Where on the body
Placement matters as much as size. We don’t tattoo hands, feet, elbows or knees, and the reasons are about how skin behaves.
- Hands and feet. The skin there renews faster, and washing, creams, work, shoes and socks rub the same lines every day. Ink drops out, what stays spreads, and the piece needs redoing within a year or two.
- Elbows and knees, front and back. The skin is thin and folds all day, so lines blur and fade faster than anywhere else.
Tell us your idea and we suggest a placement where it still looks like your design in five years.
How it heals
Fine line heals like any other tattoo. The rules are the same: keep it clean, thin layer of cream 2–3 times a day, no beach, sun or swimming for a month, no antiseptic or alcohol. Redness, itching and peeling are normal at some stages. If you want the day-by-day routine, it is in the aftercare guide.
How it ages
Strong sun fades tattoos over the years. Once the tattoo has healed, protect it from sun on holiday. The first month is covered in tattoos and the sun. Skin changes with age and weight as well, and a tattoo changes with it.
A fine line tattoo can need a touch-up. Small walk-in pieces rarely do. For larger or detailed work we tell you in advance if a touch-up is likely, so it is part of the plan.

Questions people ask
Do fine line tattoos fade faster?
A small tattoo packed with detail blurs as it ages, which is why size, placement and sun protection matter. A design that fits its size lasts better than a detailed one squeezed into a tiny space.
Who does fine line at Ink’side?
Margo works in fine line, lettering, illustration and micro-realism, in millimetres. She fits the design to your body rather than the other way round.
Can I bring my own design?
Yes. Bring a sketch, a photo or a screenshot, or pick a frame from our work and we adapt it to you.
Is it painful?
Most small pieces are quick. Our pain guide goes through the placements.
